FBI warns against „credential stuffing“

Washington, 8/24/2022

The FBI has warned against hackers taking over IP addresses to cover their tracks. More than 175,000 victims are believed to have been breached by „credential stuffing.“

In cooperation with the Australian police, the FBI has uncovered over 300,000 unique addresses affected by the hacking campaign in an operation. The hackers are believed to have obtained over $400,000 during this period.

According to the statement, hackers are taking advantage of the fact that security protocols do not automatically recognize residential proxies as a threat, and that the combination of easily accessible online tutorials and cracking tools has led to credential stuffing hacking campaigns becoming more common.

Researchers estimate that hackers will have made over 193 billion credential stuffing attacks in 2020.
