Tesla: Users to vote where next Supercharger will be located

San Francisco, 12.9.2020

Tesla has announced it will let the public vote on where the next Superchargers for electric vehicles should be located. The official @TeslaCharging account has asked people to respond with location suggestions; the tweets with the most likes will be included in a future online vote.

The most popular suggestions for Supercharger locations so far include U.S. national parks, Alaska, Hawaii and Vancouver Island. Tesla did not indicate when an official poll might be launched.

The company is expanding its fast-charging network, which is already the largest in the world with more than 35,000 Superchargers.

The electric carmaker recently applied for public funding to expand its network in the U.S., with the condition that it open the charging stations to electric vehicles from other companies. According to a White House memo, Tesla is working on new Supercharger equipment that would make its charging stations compatible with electric vehicles from other manufacturers.

In June, the Biden administration announced plans to set standards for electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the United States. These call for charging stations to be available every 50 miles, no further than one mile from a highway.
