Now after all: Edit images of human faces with DALL-E 2

San Francisco, 9/25/2022

Users of DALL-E 2 can now edit images of human faces after all. This was announced by OpenAI recently. OpenAi had once banned this because of concerns about deepfakes and other abuses. The system, named after Salvador Dalí and WALL-E, generates photorealistic images based on text input and also allows image editing.

With the newly introduced face editing feature, users can upload photos of a person and create variations of them. They can also edit certain features, such as changing the person’s hairstyle or clothing.

In a letter to DALL-E customers, OpenAI said that many users used DALL-E „to come up with their own outfits and hairstyles and to edit the backgrounds of family photos.“

Important: OpenAI’s terms of use still prohibit the uploading of

– images of people without their consent

– of images to which a user has no rights.

Background: Microsoft-backed OpenAI unveiled DALL-E 2, the latest version of its AI model, in April. Now access to the beta system is opened via a waiting list.
