According to Tesla – CEO Elon Musk, the Autopilot and AI team is also working on the humanoid robot Optimus. Tesla plans to show a working prototype of the robot during its AI Day on Sept. 30.

In a tweet, Musk pointed out that Optimus has a deadline of the end of the month. That’s also the case for that software’s Autopark and Smart Summon features, he said.

Tesla currently has 20 jobs posted for Optimus development. One of the job postings states that the code the employee develops „will eventually run in millions of humanoid robots around the world.“

Production of the robot is expected to begin in 2023. To that end, Musk explained that the general-purpose robot will first be used in Tesla factories and only then come to people’s homes. Its tasks include cooking, mowing lawns and caring for the elderly, the CEO said.

Tesla AI Day will take place in Palo Alto, Calif. The company is also expected to announce news about its custom supercomputer Dojo and other updates for its self-driving car.
