A nonprofit relief organization used Google’s AI software to identify victims of Hurricanes Ian and Fiona who need financial assistance. The algorithm is able to match poverty data with live maps of storm damage to identify communities in greatest need following a natural disaster.

Google developed the mapping tool based on poverty and storm damage data.

This data is provided via AI that analyzes satellite imagery and estimates the severity of post-disaster damage.

Recently, the AI software was used to target emergency aid to people affected by recent hurricanes. The aid was provided to users of a food stamp management app.
