An „AI opera“ co-written by GPT-3 premiered this week at Lincoln Center in New York City. „Song of the Ambassadors“ combines AI, music, science and technology. The piece was conceived by artist, writer and speaker K Allado-McDowell.
Allado-McDowell wrote the opera’s text in collaboration with OpenAI’s GPT-3 text generator. Media artist Refik Anadol designed the opera’s AI-generated images, which are combined with brainwave data to create combined visualizations.
Brainwave data is collected in real time from Lincoln Center artistic director Shanta Thake and selected audience members.
Allado-McDowell also used GPT-3 to write the books „Pharmaco-AI“ and „Cupid Cring.“ They founded the Artists + Machine Intelligence program at Google AI and joined an AI research team at Google in 2014.
