Meta has shut down the public demo of its large-scale language model Galactica. The tool, provided misleading and also incorrect results.
It had a size of 120n parameters and was trained on 48 million examples from scientific articles, lecture notes, textbooks, websites and other knowledge sources. It was designed to help researchers summarize academic articles, create wiki articles, write scientific code, annotate molecules, and solve mathematical problems.
“I think it’s dangerous,” said Michael Black, director of the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, who posted the results of his Galactica experiments online.
