Third-party Twitter apps have reported outages preventing users from logging in. Tweetbot, Twitterrific, Fenix, Talon, and Echofon all experienced the issues late Thursday on iOS and Android versions of their apps. Twitter has not yet provided an explanation.

According to Tweetbot’s Paul Hadad, API requests from third-party customers appear to have failed.

As a result, some users could only access Twitter through Twitter’s website and official client.

Some users speculated that Twitter is blocking third-party access to force people to use its own apps. However, this has yet to be confirmed.

„I hope what’s going on at Twitter is just an automated spam protection bot mistakenly banning the right apps or something like that,“ Tweetbot co-creator Paul Haddad posted on Mastodon.

Last month, a TwitterDev account vowed that the company would continue to invest in its developer platform, „specifically our Twitter API.“
