Apple’s „buy now, pay later“ function in the last test?

San Francisco, 2/9/2023

Apple has opened up its Buy Now, Pay Later feature to retail workers for testing, suggesting the company could release it to the public very soon. The Apple Pay Later feature allows users to split their Apple Pay purchases into four equal payments over a six-week period with no interest or fees.

Earlier, Apple corporate employees began testing the feature, which is now rolling out in beta to more than 80,000 retail workers.

The Pay Later feature was first announced at WWDC last June and was supposed to come out with iOS 16 last year, but there were technical issues that caused delays.

The latest test suggests the feature will appear in Apple’s Wallet app for iPhones and iPads in the near future. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple, in partnership with Goldman Sachs, could also offer a feature that spreads the cost of major purchases over several months, including interest.
