Baidu: AI bot on par with ChatGPT?
Chinese search giant Baidu said it is developing a ChatGPT-like AI bot that it will integrate into its search functionality. In English, the bot is called Ernie, which stands for Enhanced Representation through Knowledge Integration.
The bot, which is based on Baidu’s large language model first proposed in 2019, is now undergoing internal testing. Ernie can “integrate deep knowledge with massive data, resulting in exceptional understanding and generation skills,” said a Baidu spokesperson.
First, Ernie will be embedded in Baidu’s search services, allowing for conversation results similar to ChatGPT. It was rumored that the start could take place in March.
On Wednesday, Alibaba announced that it is also developing a ChatGPT rival. The Chinese e-commerce company has been working on generative AI technologies since 2017.
