Will Google maintain dominance in chatbots in the long term?

New York, 2/10/2023

Microsoft overshadowed Google this week with their respective announcements of new AI search technologies, according to Bank of America strategists. They still argued that Google could retain dominance over the long term, given that it’s been working on AI for years and „probably has superior AI technology for search, or at least better data to produce better results.“

Microsoft unveiled its new Bing search engine and its artificial intelligence-powered Edge browser Tuesday, causing both app downloads to surge in popularity.

A day later, Google briefly showed off its Bard chatbot during a live-streamed presentation. But it was left open when the AI technology would be integrated into the search function.

On Wednesday, Google lost about $100 billion in market value after an inaccurate response from Bard. Given Microsoft’s success this week, BofA strategists acknowledged that AI-powered Bing could help capture a chunk of Google’s 83.84% search market share.

Despite this, analysts believe that „Google’s big reveal [in AI] is yet to come, which we’d expect in weeks not months.“
