A group of Tesla workers in New York have announced they are unionizing
to want to organize. If successful, it would be the first US union at Tesla. For
the Elon Musk company, unions are a red rag.
The roughly 800 workers who work as analysts on Autopilot technology at Tesla’s Buffalo plant have announced their intentions in a letter to Elon Musk.
It included demands such as higher pay, more influence in decision-making, less surveillance and less production pressure, which they say is bad for their health.
They told Bloomberg that Tesla is tracking their keystrokes, leading some employees to avoid bathroom breaks.
In the letter, they urged Tesla and Musk to support fair voting principles to prevent the company from retaliating against or obstructing the organization’s efforts.
The group would be represented by Workers United, which has successfully organized hundreds of Starbucks locations across the United States into unions.
