Walmart: Three tech centers will be shut down

Walmart has announced that three technology centers in the United States will be closed. Workers were advised to relocate or leave the company.

Tech offices in Austin, Texas are affected; in Carlsbad, California; and in Portland, Oregon.

Walmart said it will cover the transfer costs of workers relocating to another tech hub, such as San Bruno, California, or its headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas. Those who leave receive a severance payment.

Almost all of Walmart’s technology employees are now expected to work in the office at least two days a week, according to CTO Suresh Kumar.

With the closures, Walmart will still have eight U.S. tech hubs and six overseas hubs.
