Can’t Tesla do without advertising after all?
San Francisco, 5/17/2023
During Tesla’s annual shareholder meeting on Tuesday, CEO Elon Musk announced that the company will launch its first-ever advertising campaign.
The move marks a departure from Tesla’s previous reliance on word-of-mouth, which Musk said was due to high demand for its vehicles.
When asked about the amount of publicity, Musk said he would just “try a little publicity and see how it goes.”
For years, the Tesla CEO had claimed that Tesla didn’t need paid advertising because demand outstripped supply. If he now examines the effect of Tesla advertising, it is reasonable to assume that competitors are increasingly pushing Tesla into the second row.
Musk confirmed that Tesla will begin delivering its Cybertrucks later this year, with projected annual production of 250,000 to 500,000 units.
He introduced two new electric vehicles that are expected to be more affordable and to be produced in larger numbers.
