EU – Commission: Huawei network components could endanger public security

Components from Huawei and ZTE in mobile networks could endanger public safety in Germany and other EU countries. The EU Commission came to this conclusion after requesting a review of the networks.
According to a press report, a ban on certain network components from Chinese mobile communications equipment suppliers is imminent. There are “indications that their further use could probably affect public order or security in the Federal Republic,” explained a spokeswoman for the Ministry of the Interior.
According to the spokeswoman, her ministry is currently examining the effects of the EU Commission’s decision on the federal government’s security policy assessment as part of the ongoing review process.”
