Apple has reportedly asked its supplier Luxshare to cut production of Vision Pro devices by more than 50%.
The company is expected to produce around 400,000 Vision Pro devices, compared to the original plan of one million devices. The mixed reality device was originally scheduled to launch on June 5, 2023 before being pushed back to 2024.
Industry experts claim that this deadline setback is related to Apple’s production scaling issues that companies worldwide have been struggling with since 2020. Specifically, manufacturers have issues with the Vision Pro’s OLED displays, which require new technology.
Background:
The device was advertised by Apple as a “spatial computing” device and attracted a great deal of attention from tech enthusiasts and journalists.
China-based Luxshare is Apple’s only publicly known assembler for the Vision Pro.
