San Francisco, 6/5/2023
According to TechCrunch and Engadget, Twitter appears to have restored functionality for logged out users to view individual tweets.
Last Friday, the platform began banning unlogged users from accessing public tweets and profiles on the platform.
According to Twitter owner Elon Musk, the access restriction was a “temporary emergency measure” to counter the data looting that “is affecting the service for ordinary users”.
As of Wednesday, Twitter now allows users to view tweets without logging in, though profile tweet feeds are still blocked for unlogged users.
Tweet preview in iMessage also reportedly works for some users.
In addition to restricting tweet visibility, Twitter is restricting daily tweet access and citing the need to combat malicious bots that scour the platform for data.
The limits are currently 1,000 posts per day for unverified users and 10,000 posts per day for verified users.
Twitter claims the change will only affect a small percentage of users.
