Anthropic, a startup founded by former OpenAI research executives, has unveiled its latest AI chatbot to the public. US and UK users can now try the Claude 2 beta at claude.ai.

Anthropic also opens up the Claude 2 API to developers and businesses at the same cost as its predecessor, Claude 1.3.

Claude 2 offers improved features including more “harmless answers”, better performance on tasks like multiple choice exams and the ability to summarize up to 75,000 words.

It scored 76.5% on the multiple choice section of the bar exam, compared to 73% in the previous version. Anthropic’s AI models have also been tested by companies like Slack, Notion, and Quora.

The generative AI company has assembled a waiting list of over 350,000 people seeking access to Claude’s API and consumer products.

Anthropic has raised $750 million in funding since March, when the company had a pre-investment valuation of $4.1 billion.

Crunchbase estimates that the startup, backed by Google, Zoom Ventures and others, has attracted a total of $1.45 billion in external investment, making it the third-best funded generative AI startup.
