Broadcom: EU gives green light to takeover of VMware

The EU has cleared Broadcom’s $61 billion takeover bid for virtualization software company VMware, provided competitors have guaranteed access and interoperability.

VMware virtualization software is compatible with hardware components, including adapters provided by Broadcom. Without guaranteed access, the competitors would have no chance.

Under the EU terms, Broadcom will offer its competitors “guaranteed access” and interoperability, including APIs, materials and technical support, so they can continue to use VMware’s software.

If the supervisory authorities in the USA and Great Britain also no longer see a problem under these conditions, the takeover could work out by November 1st.

If materialized, it would be one of the largest acquisitions in the tech industry and allow Broadcom to expand its presence in enterprise infrastructure software.
