MC-Kinsey – Survey: Generative AI tools amazingly achieve high level of awareness

McKinsey’s latest global AI survey shows a sharp rise in awareness and usage of generative AI tools. The survey conducted in mid-April 2023 shows that many people are already experimenting with tools like ChatGPT, although they are still relatively new.

Overall, 79% of respondents said they have tried generative AI, and 22% regularly use the tools in their work. Adoption rates were highest in the technology industry and in North America. The most common uses of GenAI tools have been reported in marketing and sales, product development, and service operations.

Three quarters of respondents believe GenAI will lead to significant changes in industry competition over the next three years. The technology and finance sectors are expected to experience the greatest disruption, but knowledge-based industries such as banking and education are also seeing a significant impact. On the other hand, industries that rely more heavily on physical labor, such as manufacturing, may be less affected.
