PEW survey; More than 50% of Americans are concerned about AI

New York, 9/4/2023

More than half of Americans are more concerned than excited about the increasing role of AI in everyday life, according to the results of a Pew Research poll. 52% expressed concern, up 14% from December 2022. Older adults are more concerned than younger adults, according to the survey of more than 11,000 people.
While concern about AI is prevalent across all demographic groups, 61% of adults over 65 are more concerned and 4% more excited about AI, while in the 18-29 age group, 42% are more concerned and 17% are more excited.
As public concern mounts, opinions differ on the impact in different areas. For example, 53% of Americans believe technology does more harm than good when it comes to privacy of personal information.
AI is being embraced more positively in areas such as finding online products and services, improving the safety of vehicles, and helping physicians deliver quality patient care.
