Google: the assistant will soon shine with the latest LLM technology

San Francisco, 8/1/2023

Google is working on an improved version of its assistant based on the latest LLM (Large Language Model) technology. According to an internal company email seen by Axios, a dedicated team is already actively developing a mobile version of the advanced voice assistant.

As part of this effort, Google is conducting a reorganization that involves merging teams and some staffing adjustments. The restructuring involves a small number of layoffs.

Google wants to meet the increasing demand for cutting-edge conversational technology. In the email, executives focused on providing users with best-in-class product experiences while leveraging the transformative potential of generative AI.

Google’s recent I/O developer conference had a heavy focus on AI, with Bard, its AI chatbot, focusing on its seven-year-old Google Assistant.

New alternatives like Bard and ChatGPT have revealed some limitations of older AI helpers like Google Assistant and Alexa. Assistant is still reporting around 700 million monthly users while Bard is still in the early experimental phase.
