Anthropic: Google is pumping another $2 billion into the startup

Several US media outlets report that Google plans to invest up to $2 billion in the AI startup Anthropic. The search engine giant had previously put $500 million on the table for Anthropic. Finally, it was announced that Google had pledged an additional $1.5 billion.

Hab Google invested around $300 million to $400 million in the startup in February. Anthropic later announced that Google Cloud would be the startup’s preferred cloud provider.
But Google is by no means the only investor. In May, Anthropic secured a $450 million Series C round led by Spark Capital, followed by a $100 million funding round from SK Telecom in August.

Google’s latest funding comes a month after Amazon pledged up to $4 billion.
Amazon’s initial investment will be $1.25 billion, with the chance of an additional $2.75 billion.
