T-Mobile has launched an investigation after a Vice report over the weekend claimed a hacker gained access to the personal data of 100 million customers. The data includes names, phone numbers, addresses and Social Security numbers.
The hacker demanded six bitcoin ($272,000) in exchange for a subset of 30 million customer records. The hacker plans to sell the rest of the data privately.
T-Mobile has experienced at least one data breach every year since 2018. In 2018, hackers accessed the names, email addresses and phone numbers of 2 million customers. The following year, another 1 million customers were affected by a similar data breach.
