OPENAI chose London
3. Juli 2023OPENAI chose London
London, 06/03/2023
After recently announcing plans to open an office in Europe, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is now certain to have chosen London for his first corporate headquarters outside of the United States. Rationale: Oopen – AI could benefit from London’s strong AI research hub, data science and AI talent pool and ecosystem of AI startups. Altman had also reviewed locations in Poland and France.
Crucial to the decision, however, were the AI regulations proposed by the European Union, which oblige generative AI companies to disclose their training data.
In contrast, the UK indicated that it is developing „innovation-friendly“ regulations. OpenAI competitor DeepMind has also settled in London.
The country’s government says it has invested £2.5 billion ($3.16 billion) in AI since 2014. The city is also preparing to host an AI summit in 2024. |
