Meta is gearing up to launch AI-powered chatbos, known as “personas,” on Facebook and Instagram as early as next month.
The chatbots offer a search function, personalized recommendations, and human-like interactive experiences. In June, app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi spotted Instagram’s upcoming „Chat with an AI“ feature, which will offer advice and responses from 30 different AI personalities and users at the same time as they compose of messages helps.
In a conference call on the results this week, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company is building AI experiences on top of its large language model, LLaMA.
He said AI can help people connect and express themselves on Meta’s apps. These include „creative tools that make sharing content easier and more fun, agents that can act as assistants or coaches, or help you interact with companies and creators, and more.“
The move could help improve user engagement and demonstrate Meta’s AI capabilities in competition with Microsoft-backed OpenAI and Google’s Bard.
Other tech companies like Character.ai and Snap have already introduced chatbots with personalities. Apple is also said to be developing its AI solutions, including a large language model similar to ChatGPT and Google’s Bard, dubbed „Apple GPT“ internally.
