Cruisse, maker of autonomous vehicles, has announced that it will expand its self-driving car delivery pilot project with Walmart to additional stores in Arizona and eventually to the rest of the United States.
The program, which pairs temp drivers with Cruise’s electric, self-driving Chevy Bolts to deliver goods, was first launched last year at a Walmart store near Scottsdale, Arizona.
Now Cruise’s Carter Stern said the pilot project could expand to as many as eight Walmart stores in Arizona this year. However, it is so far the only revenue stream for General Motors-backed Cruise, which is using AI/ML to scale its service.
On Feb. 1, the company announced it had received $1.35 billion from SoftBank and was opening the ride-hailing service to the public in San Francisco.
