San Francisco, 1/22-2022.
Evans Hankey, Apple’s hardware design chief and successor to Jony Ive, is leaving the company in 2023. Hankey, who oversees the design process for iPhones, Macs and other products, will remain at Apple for another six months. Apple has not yet publicly named her successor.
Hankey took over the role after longtime Apple chief designer Jony Ive left the company in 2019 to start his own firm. She will report directly to Apple COO Jeff Williams.
Meanwhile, Apple and Ive recently agreed not to renew the consulting contract. Ive, who was hired in 1992, was a close confidant of Steve Jobs and designedpples candy-colored cases for desktop computers and the rounded edges of the iPhone.
Ive’s multi-year contract with Apple was worth more than $100 million. However, Ive was prohibited from doing work that Apple considered competition.
