Automotive giant Ford and the University of Michigan are expanding their partnership. After jointly establishing the UM Ford Center for Autonomous Vehicles, they have now opened a $75 million facility for advanced robotics.
The four-story building is the new center for the UM Robotics Institute and features classrooms and research labs for all types of robotics initiatives, including drone technology, walking robots and rover robots.
100 Ford researchers and engineers will be housed in the Robotics and Mobility Research Lab, Ford’s first on a university campus. UM and Ford’s initiatives aim to demonstrate how robotics can lead to a more equitable and safer society.
