Toyota : Detecting problems in the manufacturing process in real time

Berlin, May 6, 2020.

Toyota has reached an agreement to install Invisible AI’s computer vision technology in 14 of its North American factories. The AI systems rely on cameras to analyze manufacturing processes and detect technical problems in real time.

Under the agreement, Invisible will supply the systems to Toyota and initially install 500 AI Edge devices at its Indiana factory. The devices can „observe“ operations using high-resolution 3D cameras, Jetson chipsets and integrated Nvidia processors.

The AI model constantly processes incoming video to provide real-time insights.

It is supposed to „see“ problems that are invisible to the human eye. Then it can fix them faster. Toyota says this could improve safety, productivity and efficiency during the assembly process.

The company will analyze the data collected by the AI internally instead of uploading it to the cloud. The videos will also be anonymized to protect employee privacy.
