Can Apple triple ad revenue with this concept?

San Francisco, 8/15/2022

Apple could introduce advertising in its Apple Maps, Podcasts and Books apps, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Apple has already tested ads in Maps that display recommendations when searching for nearby businesses, Gurman writes.

Currently, Apple’s App Store, News and Shares allow clearly labeled ads next to content. Apple’s native apps Maps, Podcasts and Books currently have no ads. According to Gurman, Apple could start allowing companies to pay for sponsored spots to appear at the top of Maps search results.

The Podcasts and Books apps would work similarly, allowing publishers to pay for higher content in search results or for ads in certain app areas.

Apple TV+, Apple’s streaming service, could also introduce a lower-priced ad-supported tier, according to Gurman. Apple already runs ads on TV+ for its „Friday Night Baseball“ deal with Major League Baseball.

The company hopes to triple its ad revenue to double digits, starting from about $4 billion annually.
