FBI and CISA: US – election results cannot be influenced by hackers

Washington, Oct. 7, 2022

The FBI has indicated in a joint statement with CISA that potential cyberattacks are unlikely to affect U.S. election results.

The agency added that efforts aimed at undermining future U.S. elections would be detected and neutralized. It said it could not 100 percent rule out the possibility of hackers penetrating FBI defenses, but election results could not be affected.

In the event of a cyberattack, election authorities use fail-safe measures such as provisional ballots, backup poll books and other safeguards to ensure election results are accurate.

As a complementary measure, the FBI and CISA will issue a list of recommendations- similar to the following examples: :

° Watch for phone calls and emails from unknown actors attempting to,

provide information about elections

° Avoid website domains that do not end with „.gov“, etc.
