Twitter: more than 200 million email addresses have been leaked

San Francisco, 01/08/2023

The usernames and email addresses of more than 200 million Twitter customers were leaked in an online hacking forum. Although passwords have not been published there, according to Alon Gal, co-founder of cybersecurity firm Hudson Rock, there is still “too much hacking, targeted phishing and doxxing” going on. This could lead to greater exposure of anonymous users‘ real-world identities and make it easier for cybercriminals to hack Twitter accounts.

Security researchers pointed out that data from previous Twitter hacks – dating back to 2021 – has been compiled. Gal, who first spotted the leak, called it „one of the most significant“ he’s ever seen.

In addition to usernames and email addresses, the data includes account handles, follower numbers, and dates when the account was created. Users can now verify if their email address was included in the leak by visiting the Have I been Pwned website.
