Sam Altman will address AI technologies before the convention on Tuesday

San Francisco, 5/13/2023

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, will testify before Congress next week as lawmakers scramble to develop rules for rapidly advancing AI.

Altman will appear before the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and Law Tuesday to discuss ways to keep AI under control as the technology spreads.

Also attending the hearing, titled „Oversight of AI: Rules for Artificial Intelligence,“ will be IBM’s vice president and chief privacy and trust officer, Christina Montgomery, and Gary Marcus, an AI author and professor emeritus at New York University.

Senator Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn, the subcommittee chair, said the hearing marks the beginning of the panel’s work to monitor and clarify AI technologies and advanced algorithms.

The night before the hearing, Altman will also attend a dinner with Democrats and Republicans in the House of Representatives aimed at educating members of Congress about AI.

Last week, Altman was one of the tech CEOs attending a White House meeting on AI to ensure regulatory protections. When asked if the companies agreed on the regulations, Altman said, „We have surprising agreement on what actions should be taken.“
