India now among top 5 iPhone markets in India

According to Counterpoint Research, India has made it into Apple’s top 5 iPhone markets for the first time, overtaking both France and Germany.

India saw strong growth in iPhone sales in the second quarter of 2023, contributing nearly 4% to total iPhone sales, up 50% year-on-year. The country is now behind the UK, Japan, China and the US in iPhone sales.

As part of its diversification strategy, Apple recently opened physical stores in Delhi and Mumbai and boosted iPhone production in India.

Despite the dominance of low-cost Android smartphones in India, the premium smartphone market is growing, benefiting Apple. Last year, Apple shipped 6 million smartphones to the country.

Meanwhile, analysts at Morgan Stanley are predicting that Apple’s business in India could grow sevenfold to $40 billion over the next decade.
