A first model of the „Tesla Bot“ will hit the market „sometime next year,“ Musk announced at Tesla’s „AI Day“ late last week.
From the description of the robot, it appears that it will be a kind of „girl for everything“. Its capabilities include: it will take on dangerous, repetitive or boring tasks; it will be proficient at putting bolts on cars with a wrench; it will also be able to pick up groceries from the nearby store. But whether this potential is already enough to conclude that it will have a profound impact on the economy remains to be seen for now.
The human-like robot is about 1.80 meters tall, acts quite naturally and is always friendly. One could run away from it, he said, and most likely overpower it. „Hopefully that won’t happen, but you never know,“ Musk added with a laugh in the video recording shown on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_ubwnA9428.
Human-like robots have already been presented by several companies. In Japan, they are mainly used in elderly care and household tasks. However, some view their use skeptically because they associate it with the loss of their jobs as a result of automation.
Musk sees the „Tesla Bot“ in connection with the group’s cars. Because the cars communicate with each other, they are ultimately robots on wheels. This means that Tesla is a robotics company.
