Stuttgart, 3.11.2019
Robots are helpful when it comes to welding and assembling parts. At Audi, they now also take on tasks that are so monotonous and boring that a well-trained monkey could do them. The goal is to free employees for more demanding, complex and value-adding tasks.
Audi myMate – that is the name of this virtual robot employee. He first had to complete the pilot phase, was employed in asset accounting in August and later helped to book capital goods in the system. So far, four such robots have been in operation, but in the near future there will be many more. If these first steps go according to plan, Audi will probably hire many of these virtual robots to take over monotonous tasks from real human employees.
Dr. Bernd Martens, Chief Procurement and IT Officer, said: „With the introduction of RPA (Robot process automation), we are driving the digitization of our business. We are using bots to make our processes more efficient and faster, while giving our employees more time for more interesting tasks – a win-win situation for everyone.
