San Francisco, Feb. 17, 2022
Mobileye, Intel’s self-driving technology business, plans to launch its self-driving electric shuttles in the U.S. in 2024.
The on-demand passenger shuttles would be completely driverless and travel at speeds of up to 35 mph within a fenced area.
Mobileye is working with Benteler EV Systems and Beep on the shuttles, which have 12-14 seats and do not operate pedals or a steering wheel. The company also produces driver assistance technologies for major automakers to enable automatic braking, lane keeping and more for their vehicles.
Since 2020, the company has shipped 100 million EyeQ system-on-chips designed for autonomy levels 4 and 5, meaning „high“ and „full“ autonomy, respectively.
Subject to regulatory approval, Mobileye plans to launch robotaxis in Israel and Germany by the end of 2022. The company is working with its partner Udelv to launch electric delivery vehicles in the U.S. by 2023.
Intel has already announced that it plans to list Mobileye on Nasdaq in mid-2022.
The deal could value Mobileye at more than $50 billion.
Mobileye previously went public in 2014 and was acquired by Intel in 2017 for $15.3 billion.
