Another good idea: Inflection AI makes computers easier to master

San Francisco, 11/3/2022

The co-founders of LinkedIn and DeepMind have teamed up to create Inflection AI, a startup that develops AI software to help people communicate better with computers.

The co-founders are Reid Hoffman of LinkedIn, Mustafa Suleyman of DeepMind and former DeepMind researcher Karén Simonyan. At Inflection, Suleyman will serve as CEO and Simonyan as chief scientist.

The Silicon Valley-based startup aims to develop a suite of new technologies that will enable people to speak to computers in simple language. He did not provide details about potential customers or the timeline for software development. Suleyman believes it will be possible to generate human-level speech within five years.

Suleyman recently left his job as VP at Google AI to work as a venture partner at VC firm Greylock, which is investing an undisclosed amount in Inflection AI; it also plans to provide marketing, hiring and tech leader intro support to the startup.

Hoffman, a full-time partner at Greylock, and Suleyman have known each other for nearly 10 years and have invested in other startups. Suleyman recently told TechCrunch that the AI ecosystem has matured beyond the hype and that there are many opportunities for AI companies as people better understand the possibilities and limitations of AI.
