Google’s Pixel 7 : everything faster, more efficient and more economical

San Francisco, 7.10.202

Google’s new Pixel 7 phone includes an updated AI chip. The Tensor G2 AI accelerator makes the smartphone’s machine learning tasks 60% faster and 20% more efficient than the Pixel 6, according to Google. The company’s Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) are specifically designed for machine learning tasks.

Google today unveiled its Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones, which feature new AI capabilities thanks to second-generation TPUs.

During the hardware unveiling, Google device chief Rick Osterloh said the TPU on the device keeps pace with Google’s rapidly evolving ML research. The Tensor G2 enables new and/or improved AI features for the Pixel 7:

It converts text to speech 70% faster while using only 50% less power than the first-generation Tensor chip on the Pixel 6.

Voice translation is 60% faster and uses 20% less power, according to Google.

The chip increases Google Assistant’s accuracy and removes unwanted background noise.

It also enables emoji suggestions in texts and provides transcriptions of audio messages when an audio file is sent.

Perhaps most notably, the Pixel 7 line has improved camera features and photo and video processing over the Pixel 6. The Tensor G2 enables super-res zoom capabilities and the ability to sharpen photos with a denoising feature.
