Twitter data breach affected 100 million user records

San Francisco, 29l.11. 2022

The Twitter data breach reported a few months ago may have affected 100 million users, not just 5 million as previously thought.

Twitter has not yet confirmed the new reports, which come from a cybersecurity researcher named Chad Loder

.

In August 2022, Twitter confirmed that hackers had found a vulnerability that allowed them to link a specific account to other details such as phone numbers, regardless of the account’s privacy settings.

According to Twitter, the vulnerability was exploited in June 2021. The researcher who found the vulnerability received a $5,000 bounty – a sign that the social media giant likely underestimated the impact of the flaw.

While the threat actors have not yet been identified, it is known that the hackers stole information such as usernames, display names, profile descriptions, locations, email addresses and phone numbers.
